Limited Edition - Swan Lake
In Limited Edition - Swan Lake, I repeated Odette’s variation 4 times. In each variation, I removed 1 note from the piano keyboard, restricted the dancer’s movement and I changed the color of the light to correspond to a lighting system that I created.
The keys of the piano to eliminate the most frequently used notes in Swan Lake. In order of frequency, the notes that I dampened were E, G#, F# and C#.
I eliminated E, in 1st ACT, and I restricted the dancer’s right hand by taping the dancer’s glove to the barre. For each of remaining 3 ACTs, I restricted her hand or foot. In addition to, modifying the piano and restricted the dancer’s movement, I changed the light in each ACT.
I chose a color for each of the 12 tones of the chromatic scale. For this work, I aligned 12 tones of the chromatic scale to 12 colors that I selected. In each of 4 sections when I eliminated one of the notes, I also eliminated the corresponding color from the color spectrum.
The choreographer of the original production was Julius Reisinger.
